What happens when a neighborhood restaurant gets a good review? Outsiders start showing up. Isn’t that the purpose of good press? In the case of Annabel Lee tavern, we heard good things: innovative food offerings, friendly hangout, relaxed atmosphere. Name is from Edgar Allen Poe and many a tribute to him on the walls.
Thursday night we call, no reservation policy is not really indicated, only a: “let me take your name and it should be fine.” There is no hostess table, and no one greets you. The room is long and narrow, bar is half the length of the front room. A twenty minute wait, and finally we are seated. No specific or assigned waiter, only a tag team of employees. Food was tasty, but nothing great. It felt like perhaps this was a neighborhood hangout, but some were clearly not from “the” neighborhood. Oh well, better spot to be reviewed next time.
